Which employers are hiring women in cyber security today
The National Security Agency (NSA) has a long history of hiring female employees, but few companies have demonstrated that they’re committed to diversity. One such company is IBM, which hired its first security specialist—Barbara Williams—back in 1975. Since then, IBM has launched several programs dedicated to promoting diversity within their ranks and showing women interested in cyber security that there are great jobs out there just waiting for them. A few other big players working hard to recruit women include AT&T, General Dynamics, C4 Systems, CSRA Inc., Microsoft, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Raytheon Company.
Cyber Security training programs
There are many different ways to get started in cyber security. If you’re interested in pursuing a formal education, there are many degree programs available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Alternatively, if you’re already working in IT, you may be able to pursue certifications that will give you the skills needed to work in cyber security. Once you’ve figured out what type of cyber security role you want, it’s time to start researching training programs. If your goal is to work in corporate or government cyber security jobs, consider a degree at a four-year university and aiming towards security certifications on top of that. Another way would be through scholarships and fellowships – these can greatly offset college costs. Lastly, there are some cyber security companies offering boot camps for people who have solid experience but might not have an extensive academic background. These can get pricey though!
How much does cyber security pay?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that demand for information security analysts will increase by 28 percent from 2016 to 2026, adding approximately 181,400 new jobs. The BLS lists a median wage of $90,390 per year. But don’t forget about bonuses; in many fields, senior-level employees get paid based on their level of job performance and can receive annual bonuses worth tens of thousands of dollars.
