In Sentry s Life and Annuities Unit, we develop client-focused solutions. Our unit supports strategies for the creation, enhancement, and maintenance of a suite of individual life insurance and annuity products.

We are seeking an Associate Director to lead the development and pricing of our individual life and annuity products, support product administration, monitor financial performance, guide management decisions to address concerns, and support risk management efforts. In this role, you will participate in the development of short-term and long-range strategies for the business in areas including pricing, product management and underwriting. You will be a key point of contact with our outside reinsurance and underwriting partners. This is an exciting opportunity to own a highly influential and visible position on Sentry s Life and Annuities Unit.

The Associate Director of Product, Pricing and Underwriting will help to steer and support the strategies and initiatives for Sentry s individual life & annuity products.You will:

  • Lead an actuarial team that analyses product line financials to ensure financial strength. This encompasses product development and inforce management, including:

  • Monitor product performance to develop management strategies.

  • Influence product development and product enhancement decisions.

  • Develop projection models for premium, policy counts, expenses, losses, etc. to forecast financial results.

  • Evaluate risks, costs, benefits, and pricing to support competitiveness, growth, and profitability.

  • Coordinate analyses, summarize findings, and effectively communicate with executive management to guide decisions.

  • Provide leadership and direction to our underwriting team to support the growth of our product lines in a risk-mindful manner.

  • Contemplate how risk selection and risk retention is impacted by distribution outlets and reinsurance partners.

  • Maintain monitoring and auditing practices to assure adherence to established underwriting protocols.

  • Guide the life insurance application and issuance team to support timely processing of applications and assure adherence with accepted business processes that comply with regulatory requirements.

What it Takes

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience

    • Emphasis in Math, Actuarial, Statistics, Business Administration or Economics.

  • 8+ years of related work experience.

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

  • Strong financial and analytical skills. Advanced knowledge of life insurance and annuity products; including product features, pricing, and regulatory compliance.

  • Proficient skill level in actuarial areas of statistical analysis/assumption setting used for rate making, reserving, and forecasting.

  • Knowledge and experience at a proficient level to successfully handle the underwriting decisions made by this position.

  • Ability to manage complex assignments to completion with limited guidance that meet the objectives of the assignment and align with the priorities outlined by management.

  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
