* Join Southwest as a Summer 2023 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 23rd to August 11th
* Work fully remotely, with opportunities to connect with your Team and other workgroups virtually and potential to travel to visit HDQ.
* Dedicate 40 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
* Receive hourly pay of $30 and receive a one-time $1,000 stipend on your first paycheck.
* Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel)
* Interns will receive any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.
The Technology Department at Southwest Airlines reports to SWA’s Chief Information Officer (CIO). They work hand in hand to manage the Company delivery plan, execute projects and programs, develop and integrate new products and technologies, and develop methodologies while ensuring the appropriate architecture, quality standards, service management procedures, and security measures are in place.
Technology plays a key role in guiding the strategic future of Southwest Airlines through initiatives that touch every aspect of our business and operation. It empowers and equips Southwest’s Employees with the solutions they need to be successful while providing Southwest’s Customers with the tools they need to have a positive travel experience. Technology Teams contribute to meaningful work that delivers value to the airline through innovation, modernization, problem solving, strategic planning and more.
The Intern will work as a Cybersecurity Analyst within the Technology Department. The intern will have the opportunity to join Cybersecurity Teams that may include but are not limited to Threat Intelligence & Response Risk Compliance and Cyber Programs Enablement & Data Privacy.
Cybersecurity Vulnerability Management & Penetration Testing Team Candidate would be partnering with external threat research partners to communicate externally identified vulnerabilities and ensure remediation outcomes. Candidate would be working across the IT infrastructure, DevOps and the Cyber Security organization to scale Infrastructure Security through expanding our toolsets, automating capabilities and integration into the CI/CD pipeline. This intern will propose change and process improvements by challenging the status-quo through new ideas and novel concepts.
Enterprise Data Privacy Technology Team Privacy is a profession with tremendous growth opportunity, and it’s a discipline that’s constantly evolving, making it an increasingly attractive career to choose. Some of the key privacy initiatives for 2023 that the selected intern will work on are 1) Implement a new Data Privacy Saas solution to automate many of our privacy processes in place, 2) Help with Data Discovery implementation by connecting the privacy tool to key systems that process customer and employee personal information and 3) Support all other privacy initiatives led by the team
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Work with business customers to conduct needs analysis relative to systems and business processes in order to create quality technical solutions.
* Ensure solutions are aligned with internal tooling, business strategies and comply with departmental standards.
* Manage timeframes for designing, coding, testing, and implementing to ensure solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
* Serve as a resource to ensure effective communications between business and Technology Teams.
* Participate in systems and acceptance testing.
* Scope of work varies depending on the Team assignment.
Basic Qualifications:
* High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
* You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process.
* This position requires authorization to work in the United States as a permanent employee without sponsorship now or in the future.
Education:
* Progress toward undergraduate or graduate degree in Cyber Security, MIS, Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or Information Technology, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering or Business-related degree required.
* Minimum Sophomore status. May not have an undergraduate graduation date of May 2023 or prior, unless already enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program at time of application.
* To be eligible you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by your university at the time of application.
* Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Work Style:
* Basic knowledge of technical environment required.
* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
* Experience or exposure to eDirectory, Active Directory, Self Service Password Reset, RSA IG&L, Micro Focus IDM, CyberArk, and Ping is preferred.
* Basic knowledge of information security and risk mitigation principles, theories, and techniques preferred.
* Basic knowledge of business analysis, process modeling and redesign is preferred.
* Exposure to Agile methodologies preferred.
* Coursework or experience related to Cybersecurity preferred.
* Previous analyst internship experience within the past 12 months preferred.
* Experience solving business problems in a capstone or case competition preferred.
* Ability to stay organized and manage multiple and concurrent assignments under tight deadlines.
* Works well in a culture that is open, direct, respectful, courteous and compassionate.
Time Commitment & Pay:
* Required: Full time 40hrs a week
* Relocation to Dallas, TX is not required. This internship is remote.
* Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule M-F during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day
* Program dates: May 23rd – August 11th
* $30 per hour + $1,000 stipend paid one time on first paycheck
