The TA Head, BMS Japan Medical Affairs, is a pharmaceutical executive with extensive therapeutic area knowledge, pharmaceutical/life sciences working experience and a current manager of teams within Medical Affairs. He/She engages extensively and naturally with external thought leaders and organizations while serving as the internal medical expert for their respective TA. They manage the full cycle of Medical Affairs (including Insight Generation, Actionable Insight identification and execution, Data Generation, Data Communication and Field Medical Scientific Engagement). Additionally, they are key members of the Japan Medical Leadership Team to ensure the success of their therapeutic area by advocating for their teams, escalating needs, priorities and resources of their team to senior leadership while simultaneously being enterprise minded to ensure the TA medical plans are reflective of the priorities of the broader organization. As a people manager, they are responsible for building and maintaining a high-performing medical team, driving motivation, and achieving results through coaching and modeling of best practices.

1) Broad Working Knowledge: Holds extensive knowledge in commercial/marketing and R&D medical functions.
2) Understanding of International Pharmaceutical Issues: Possesses a broad and in-depth understanding of international issues relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
3) Therapeutic Area Knowledge: Understands disease mechanisms, epidemiology, and typical treatments.
4) Regulatory Knowledge: Acquainted with the Promotion Code and other relevant regulations pertaining to Medical Affairs in Japan.
5)Clinical Research Knowledge: Preferably possesses knowledge of clinical research, clinical development (Phases 1-4), Investigator Sponsored Research (ISRs), and Japanese Post-Marketing Surveillance (PMS).

1) Advanced Japanese/English Proficiency: Possesses advanced-level proficiency in Japanese/English.

5) Project and Financial Management Experience: Brings experience in project management and financial management within the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring efficient resource allocation and project delivery.
6) Expertise in Process Improvement: Shows proficiency in process improvement and problem-solving methodologies, such as Six Sigma, driving continuous improvement and efficiency.
Experiences
1) A minimum of 10 years of experience in the medical/science related roles pharmaceutical industry with at least 8 years in Medical Affairs
Qualifications
Advance Medical/Science Degree required (MD, PhD, PharmD); Medical Doctor degree preferred. Direct management of Medical Affairs personnel required, preferably of both Medical Directors and Field Medical team members Experience in commercialization of product/asset/therapy required, direct launch experience of one product required, preferably multiple products/therapies. Experience partnering closely and compliantly with commercial functions such as sales, marketing, market access Deep Therapeutic Area Experience/Expertise: Requirement to have worked in the Therapeutic Area for the past 3-5 years and/or board certified or trained in the TA Strong Communication skills in both Japanese and English Strong business acumen
Language proficiency
1) Complete level of written Japanese – can completely understand medical articles and general business documents in Japanese, can write formal Japanese at business setting, and can write a medical article in the assigned area.
2) Complete level of oral Japanese – can make presentations, have medical discussions and build an trustful and appropriate relationship with HCPs.
3) Advanced level of written English – can completely understand medical articles of assigned area and general business documents in English
4) Advanced level of oral English – can make effective presentations, have discussions and effective negotiations with global counterparts in English
