Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a per diem Staff Assistant for the department of OB/ GYN at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Genetics Supervisor, Staff Assistant perform a variety of secretarial services, clinical and administrative support for the Section of Perinatal Genetics. This individual should be familiar with the operations of a prenatal genetics and maternal fetal medicine practice and understand the intricacies of how these two specialties intertwine.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Answer phone calls from patients, referring offices.

  • Obtain records from referring provider offices.

  • Send completed reports to referring offices.

  • Track, triage and organize all genetic testing results so that genetic counselors can call patients.

  • Call patients with normal results and email them fetal sex information, as requested.

  • Assure that all referring offices are getting genetic counseling reports and laboratory results for patients.

  • Triage calls and assist in scheduling patients appropriately.

  • Schedule meetings, as needed.

  • Assist genetic counselors in day-to-day operations of patient care by calling to obtain results, records and information for timely processing of patient care.

  • Assist ATU with having records for CVS and amniocentesis procedures.

  • Assist front desk with obtaining the appropriate referral documents for genetic counseling and ATU related procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration, Social Science or a related discipline, one (1) year of related experience in a business office, government agency or university setting.

  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
