New York Genome Center
This position at the New York Genome Center is within the computational biology group and will report to a Bioinformatics Scientist. As a Bioinformatics Analyst, you will contribute to the analyses of transcriptome sequencing data (both bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq) generated at NYGC. This includes the maintenance, benchmarking, and continuous improvement of our processing pipelines, as well as participation in downstream analyses. Additionally, you will apply and implement various tools and algorithms to analyze transcriptome data, collaborate with NYGC staff on developing new tools and with external investigators on the integration of functional genomics results within their scientific projects.
+ Contribute to setup, management and maintenance of genomic data processing pipelines;
+ Analyze sequencing data using the established pipeline(s);
+ Perform appropriate QC measures;
+ Stay current on innovations in RNA sequencing technologies and analyses;
+ Benchmark new tools for RNA-seq and single-cell RNA-seq data analysis and propose improvements;
+ Support and contribute to the development and implementation of innovative computational approaches for the analysis of large sequence datasets from NGS technologies;
+ Participate in collaboration with external and internal researchers on the analyses of NGS data;
+ Interpret and present the results of the computational and statistical analyses to collaborators and co-workers;
+ Work with the software engineering team to ensure pipeline upgrades and new pipelines are properly implemented in our production workflow manager;
+ Assist collaborators with data access, analysis, and interpretation;
+ Interact daily with other bioinformatics analysts/programmers;
+ Publish results in scientific journals and give presentations at conferences;
+ Participate in community outreach.
+ Bachelors degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, computer science or similar with at least 2 years work/research experience, or a Masters degree;
+ Experience in python and R required, as well as willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary to collaborate at NYGC;
+ 1+ years experience working with next generation sequencing data preferred (ideally human genomics), including experience using standard RNASeq analysis software (including samtools, GATK, Picard, bedtools, etc);
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

NYGC has established a flexible work policy to give employees and other staff more ability to balance their work, personal commitments, and commuting challenges. The incumbent in this position is eligible for a flexible work schedule. We prefer a candidate who can work onsite fulltime, but we are open to a hybrid remote work arrangement for this position, with supervisory approval.
The pay range for this position is $82-105k per year; base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, NYGC offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits as well as generous time off.
About the New York Genome Center
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Huntingtons), and cancer.
Located in Lower Manhattan, the New York Genome Center was founded by and remains closely affiliated with twelve leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region and beyond, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions.
