Summary: Daily Dispatch (NM State Listings) and NM Workforce
Classification Summary:Under direction of the Fire Chief, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the emergency and non-emergency activities of a fire suppression company; commands emergency response scenes; directs and performs a variety of staff support functions; plans, organizes, coordinates and directs fire inspection and prevention programs; and performs related work as assigned. Responds to fire and other emergencies. Performs fire suppression activities, basic life support and prevents property loss on campus and surrounding community. Supervise, directs and evaluates work of assigned staff.
Provides non emergency services as requested. Ensure completion of incident reports and activity reports. Coordinates EMS event staff for large public gatherings at concerts, sporting events, etc.
Classification Standard Duties:Responds to fire and other emergencies and provides basic life support and/or prevents property loss to NMSU Las Cruces campus and surrounding communities. Conducts fire safety inspections Replace and coordinate service as necessary.
Maintain servicing database. Provide effective training on updated equipment and protocols and procedures. Provide continuing Education courses for members to maintain their licenses. Provide effective all around training to bring all members to a standard of knowledge.
Recruit and maintain EMT staff to cover large public gatherings such as concert, games and campus activities. Maintain equipment and EMS supplies necessary. Maintain UTV’s, training and maintenance for event staff. This is not a full representation of all duties and may be assigned other duties as needed by the department.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, EquivalencyRequired Education: High School Diploma, or GED certificate, candidates are required to have a minimum of 45 quarter or 30 semester college credits that are applicable to an accredited degree program for an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in fire science.; Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of training and experience.Required Experience: Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a paid, full-time fire department at the rank of Fire Lieutenant or higher;Required Certification/License: – NM EMT Basic License or higher and -IFSAC Firefighter Level II or equivalent and Fire Officer Level I or higher.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE: Knowledge and understanding of fire safety and prevention principles, practices, standards, and resources.
Knowledge and understanding of local, State, and Federal fire/safety regulations and codes. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Knowledge of and skill in the application of basic on-site emergency medical protocols and procedures. Knowledge of the use of emergency medical transport procedures, facilities, and equipment.
Knowledge of emergency medical equipment maintenance regulations and policy standards.; SKILLS:Records maintenance experience, ,computer skills, fire reporting and fire software knowledge; ABILITIES:Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to provide guidance and support EMT staff and/or students. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

Preferred Qualifications
NM Driver’s License with the ability to acquire a Class E Endorsement within (6) months of hire date

Environment: Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements: i.e. extreme temp, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, other potentially dangerous materials/situations that require safety precaution/protective equip
Physical Effort: Considerable physical activity.
Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
