THIS RECRUITMENT IS TO FILL A FULL-TIME VACANCIES IN THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT’S BUILDING AND SAFETY DIVISION AND TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBILITY LIST TO BE USED FOR FUTURE VACANCIES.
The examination process will consist of a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire; therefore, it is to your advantage to provide as much detailed and relevant work experience. SUMMARY : Under general supervision of the Building Official, reviews building plans and specifications for residential, commercial buildings, alterations, and repair; to assist at the public counter by providing technical support; and secure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, standards, municipal codes, and other established policies and procedures.

Associate Degree in civil engineering, architecture, construction, or a related field is highly desirable and a minimum of two (2) years of full-time responsible experience in reviewing construction plans.

Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record. Certification as a Building Plans Examiner by the International Code Council (ICC) required. Additional certifications as a Civil or Structural Engineer, Energy and Green Plans Examiner, and Certified Access Specialist (CASp) are highly desired.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting including use of standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle; to visit various City sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May be exposed to outside weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and other conditions. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds.
